We evaluate various configurations of small-group math instruction in primary (grade 2) and lower secondary (grade 8) school with and without supervision of teachers, using randomized trials. The interventions are aimed at ‘marginal’ students; the very best and the very weakest in schools. Results show positive and in some cases remarkably large effects. We perform a cost-effectiveness analysis and compare standardized effect sizes to other school based interventions.
