Welcome

Iñigo Iturbe-Ormaetxe, Chair

The Department of Economics (Departamento de Fundamentos del Análisis Económico) at the University of Alicante is a research-oriented center.

The aim of our Department is to consolidate a human team that sustains the highest quality standards both in research and teaching.

We encourage top quality research by providing a modern infrastructure to all faculty and a stimulating environment for interaction. We organize several seminars every week, and we count with the support of the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Económicas to disseminate our research through its AD series of discussion papers. Our Department is typically ranked among the top-5 Spanish Economics Departments on the basis of research output and is one of the most productive European Departments in per capita terms.

The core of the Department consists of about 40 full-time faculty members who got their degrees from top universities from all over the world. Research fields are quite varied, and cover most areas in modern economic research:

  1. Behavioral, Evolutionary and Experimental Economics
  2. Economic growth and Development
  3. Finance
  4. Game Theory
  5. Health Economics
  6. Industrial Organization
  7. Labor Economics
  8. Microeconometrics
  9. Macroeconomics
  10. Public Economics
  11. Social Networks
  12. Statistics and Econometrics
  13. Urban, Rural and Regional Economics
  14. Welfare economics.

Since research cannot be disentangled from graduate programs, we have strived for a graduate program of excellence. We run a Graduate Program in Economics which is an American style full-time program taught entirely in English. The program provides students with a thorough theoretical and practical training in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, as well as specialization in applied fields. The aim of the program is to prepare students for professional careers in universities, public and private research organizations, international institutions, consultancy and business.
